What it is: Before you think I’m advocating gambling, let me clarify that this is really more of a free math-training app. In fact, the app’s description even says, “It’s a perfect way to practice your blackjack skills, train your brain or just pass the time.”
Brain Benefits: processing speed, math computations, attention, planning, strategy
What I love: I enjoy crunching (easy) numbers. In a strange way, it feels like I’m giving my brain a break from all the creative/writing/word stuff and just simply processing formulas. (Maybe this works in reverse for accountants; they enjoy Scrabble and crossword puzzles.) Yep, I said it: I think math can be relaxing! With that said, this is a challenging, fast-paced game. The idea is to stack anywhere from 2 to 5 cards to add up to 21. (If you manage to get 5 cards that add up to less than 21 in one column, that’s a win too.) Each game gives you one full deck of cards (so if you’re aspiring to count cards, this is good practice!). Your goal is to finish the deck before the clock runs out. If you go over 21 in any of the four columns, it’s a bust. The Black Jacks are wild and clear any column they’re placed into.
What I’d change: It would be fun to be able to change up the look of the cards with different colors and designs!
